We are a well-established local company and our roots can be traced back to the 1920s. The business was set up by George Phillips Jones, who named the company General Engineering (Swansea) Ltd. George and his team would carry out ship repairs at Cambrian Dry Dock, and this was after he had served his time as an apprentice engineer in the Ocean Dry Dock and spent some years at sea. Following his death in 1961, George’s son Roger Phillips Jones took over the business. Then, due to the decline in shipping, he decided to set up a separate company to carry out electrical work, known as Phillips Services (Wales) Ltd.
This company has now grown into one of the largest electrical contractors in South and West Wales.
Today, the business is run by Steven Phillips Jones and managing director Barry Morgan. Over the years there have been significant changes to the type of work we carry out. This includes ship repair, refurbishment work and maintenance to heavy industry through to commercial installation work at schools and hospitals. We also provide general installation work for local domestic housing stock.
In more recent times, and after completing some 15,000 contracts, we can provide a comprehensive range of electrical services. With our strong team, many of whom have been with the company most of their working lives, we are responding to changes in the patterns of work. This includes health and safety, electrical certifications, Part P and also the change in contracting to partnering arrangements, term contracts and open book accounting.
We are currently one of the largest electrical contractors in South and West Wales, working in partnership with Swansea City Council, Carmarthenshire Council, NHS Trust Wales and many other organizations to help them fulfil their obligations under inspection and testing rules as well as helping develop new sites and contracts across South and West Wales.
